How does the self-destructing message work?

When you create a secret, BurnLink encrypts it with AES-256-GCM and stores only the encrypted payload. Once the recipient opens the link and reveals the message, it is immediately and permanently deleted from all servers — including backups. There is no way to recover it after it is burned.

Is BurnLink end-to-end encrypted?

Yes. BurnLink uses AES-256-GCM — the same encryption standard used by NATO and the NSA for Top Secret data — combined with TLS 1.3 in transit. We operate a strict zero-logs policy and are structurally incapable of reading your secrets.

How can I send a password securely to someone?

The safest way to send a password is to use BurnLink: paste the password, click "Create secure link", and send the link. The link is encrypted and self-destructs after being opened once, so even if the link is later found in an email or chat log, it will be dead and contain nothing.

Does BurnLink store my messages?

BurnLink stores only the encrypted payload, temporarily, until it is read. The plaintext is never stored or logged at any point. Once the secret is burned (viewed, expired, or at its view limit), all data is permanently deleted. There is no archive or backups of message content.

Do I need an account to use BurnLink?

No. BurnLink requires no account, no email address, and no sign-up of any kind. It is completely anonymous and free to use.

Can I set a password on my secret link?

Yes. BurnLink lets you add an optional passphrase to your secret link. The recipient must enter the correct passphrase before the message is revealed, adding an extra layer of protection.

What happens after the link is opened?

After the recipient opens the link and views the message, it is permanently destroyed. The link becomes invalid. BurnLink shows a burned notice and no content is retrievable — not by the sender, the recipient, or BurnLink.

How is BurnLink different from email or WhatsApp?

BurnLink works without any app install, account, or mutual contact. It creates a one-time anonymous link you can send over any channel. Unlike email or messaging apps, the message is not stored on either device and is not kept on servers after being read. It is designed specifically for one-time sensitive disclosures.
